Program Description:
Multivariate extremes data capture the simultaneous or closely-timed occurrence of extreme events across multiple variables, such as temperature, rainfall, or wind speed. These data are vital for understanding the joint risks posed by natural disasters, designing infrastructure resilient to multiple hazards, and unraveling complex climate interactions for more accurate forecasting and effective adaptation strategies. As extreme weather events increasingly occur in tandem due to climate change, modeling multivariate extremes becomes crucial for assessing their compounded impacts on ecosystems, infrastructure, and communities.
This workshop seeks to unite researchers focused on multivariate extremes modeling with experts in environmental and climate science to foster collaboration and exchangeof ideas. With ample time dedicated to discussions, the goal is to bridge the gap between theoretical researchers and applied scientists, advancing the development of innovative models that can better predict the joint occurrence, frequency, and impacts of extreme events. Such progress will enhance risk assessments, inform adaptation strategies, and guide policy decisions to address the growing challenges of climate
