     8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Organisers: Michael Baake (Bielefeld University, Germany), Michael Coons (University of Newcastle, Australia), Uwe Grimm (Open University, Milton Keynes, UK), John A. G. Roberts (UNSW, Sydney, Australia), Reem Yassawi (Univ. Claude Bernard Lyon 1, Villeurbanne, France,)

Program Description: This workshop intends to bring together researchers from the theory of aperiodic order (which in itself is an interdisciplinary research theme, covering aspects of discrete geometry, dynamical systems, ergodic theory and harmonic analysis, to name but a few) and from number theory.

Already from the very beginnings of research on aperiodic order, intriguing links to number theory were observed, and these have become increasingly apparent in recent years. We feel that there is unexplored potential in these connections, which can be tapped into by bringing together experts from the two fields.

Over the past decade, there has been a tremendous development in various directions, including spectra and transport theory of Schrödinger operators, reversing symmetry groups in dynamical systems and ergodic theory, or topological invariants in symbolic and algebraic dynamics. Additionally, the links between number theory, dynamical systems, and theoretical computer science are strengthening and the lines between them are blurring.
