Program Description:

This symposium focuses on current progress by Australian and Taiwanese mathematicians in the active international field of geometric analysis. This research area includes second and higher order linear and nonlinear elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations, differential geometry and functional analysis and has applications within mathematics to topology and convex geometry, as examples, and applications outside mathematics to modelling problems in physics, engineering and elsewhere. We envisage topics will include extrinsic flows (mean curvature flow and other fully nonlinear and higher order flows), Ricci flow and associated measure- theoretic geometric analysis. This event will provide a stimulating intellectual environment that will support growing collaboration between Australian and Taiwanese mathematicians in the field. It is a research-intensive program that will encourage participation by graduate students, early career researchers and female mathematicians. It is hopeed that this event might be one of several organised in different mathematical areas with Australian and Taiwanese mathematicians that could lead to more extensive mathematical collaborations between the two in preparation for a future joint meeting of the Australian and Taiwanese Mathematical Societies. Indeed, preliminary discussions involving the leadership of each society have taken place, with the view that first developing specific collaborations in
different research areas is a prerequisite for a successful future joint meeting of the societies.
