Program Description:

This research program seeks to explore part of the multifaceted world of geometric flows and related phenomena, focusing on four principal domains: (a) robust notions of geometric evolution (including weak formulations and natural choices of ambient “shape-space” structure); (b) convergence and long-time behaviour with rough or arbitrary initial data (including information and resolution of singularities); (c) higher-order and nonlocal geometric PDE arising from curvature-driven energies; and (d) interactions with geometry, topology, and neighbouring areas such as materials science and mathematical physics.

This program is a joint MATRIX-RIMS event, organised as two workshops running in parallel, with structured points of interaction between the two groups. The MATRIX component will focus on geometric flows and geometric PDE from the perspective of analysis, variational structure, singularity formation, and quantitative geometry, while the RIMS component will bring complementary expertise and thematic emphasis from the Japanese geometric analysis community. A central objective of the joint format is to strengthen Japan-Australia connections in geometric analysis by creating a shared research environment, in particular through joint seminars and discussion sessions that bring participants from both workshops together around common technical questions and methods.
