Program Description:
This MATRIX program aims to bring together experts from both applied and computational perspectives. Mathematicians working on application-driven Partial Differential Equation (PDE) models will present recent modelling developments and highlight the limitations of current numerical approximation methods available for applications ranging from biomedical to geophysical systems. Complementing this, numerical specialists will share advances across a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art Finite Element and Neural Network–based approaches for PDEs, including stabilised and residual minimisation techniques, structure-preserving and high-order discretisations, as well as unfitted and multiscale methods.
This two-week program is structured to maximise opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration among leading experts and emerging researchers in the field of numerical approximation theories for PDEs. Alongside two masterclasses and keynote lectures delivered by invited experts, all participants are encouraged to present their research, focusing on open problems. This will strengthen the Australian computational mathematics community and consolidate its links with the international communities. By providing a platform where latest modelling developments meet numerical innovation, this workshop will help pave the way towards novel, application-driven and mathematically-sound numerical solvers for PDEs.
