Program Description:
Reinforced random walks and self-interacting random walks are stochastic processes where the path taken by a random walker influences its future moves, introducing memory effects and non-Markovian dynamics. These models naturally arise in diverse fields such as biology, where they help describe animal foraging behaviour, neuroscience for modelling synaptic plasticity and neural connections, and computer science for developing adaptive algorithms and exploring network search strategies. Our workshop will bring together leading researchers with diverse mathematical backgrounds, including those with industrial experience, to tackle open problems arising in these fields, and discuss of their applications. The event features keynote representations on cutting-edge methodology and theory in applied probability, complemented by talks focusing on practical applications and open problems. We outline key themes and present examples of open challenges below.
This workshop aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers in probability and statistics, particularly in the context of self-interacting processes and their applications, especially to game theory and biology. This workshop will be combined with the Conference on Stochastic Processes and their Applications (SPA Conference) which will take place at Monash University in July 2027.
