MATRIX-Simons Collaborative Fund Guidelines

MATRIX seeks to enhance collaborations and co-funding opportunities with external partners. Access to the MATRIX-Simons Collaborative Fund will become available to research program organisers with significant contributions to their MATRIX Research Program from funding bodies, institutions or external partners in business, industry and government, or private donors.

Funding will be available to support research programs scheduled in 2025.

Eligibility

Applications are limited to applicants who will participate in a MATRIX research program that includes program organisers from one or more MATRIX full partners.

Applicants to MATRIX Research Programs can request additional funding if they can demonstrate a significant funding co-contribution from another source (e.g. funding bodies, institutions or external partners in business, industry and government, or private donors). The level of available additional funding will be largest for co-funding from external partners and private donors, and capped at AUD20,000 per MATRIX Research Program.

Previous recipients of MATRIX-Simons Collaborative Funding must have submitted a report to be eligible for consideration for subsequent grants.

Application process

Applicants can request collaborative funding in their MATRIX Research Program proposal.

High quality, well outlined proposals will be considered for MATRIX-Simons Collaborative Funding. Proposals should indicate how the funding will be used to support the MATRIX Research Program as well as the amount requested. Proposals should also include evidence and value of the funding co-contribution and identify the source (e.g. funding bodies, institutions or external partners in business, industry and government).

The MATRIX Office will advise applicants on the outcome of their proposal within three weeks after the MATRIX Scientific Committee meeting where the proposal was considered.

Reporting Requirements

Within at most four weeks after the conclusion of the MATRIX Research Program, recipients must submit a Financial Report to the MATRIX Office summarising the use of external funding for which MATRIX-Simons Collaborative Funding was awarded. Evidence of expenditure of all funds needs to be provided.
