Program Description:
Partial differential equations are a classical topic in analysis, with a great variety of applications ranging from physics to geometry, from biology to finance. We expect this event to fit into the great tradition of partial differential equations in Australia, as it deals with some of the fundamental aspects of the theory and it leads to problems with concrete applications. We will emphasize the rich connections and applications of PDEs with geometry and with physics, specifically the Calculus of Variations, which studies critical points of energy functionals. A special emphasis will be given to the elliptic problems in partial differential equations, their regularity properties, and their strong connections with free boundary problems and geometric measure theory.
