MATRIX-RIMS Tandem Workshop: Integrable Probability, Combinatorics and Representation Theory

David Wood

  •  26 Sep 2022 - 30 Sep 2022
     8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Organisers:
MATRIX
Sasha Garbali (University of Melbourne)
Michael Wheeler (University of Melbourne)

RIMS
Chihiro Matsui (University of Tokyo)
Masato Okado (Osaka Metropolitan University)
Tomohiro Sasamoto (Tokyo Institute of Technology)

Program Description:
In the last 20 years or so, extensive and intensive studies of integrable stochastic interacting systems have revealed their rich and deep mathematical structures related to combinatorics, quantum algebras, special functions and representation theory. Various concepts and methods in the latter have been successfully applied to statistical mechanical models in probability theory. At the same time, in the opposite direction, clarifying properties of stochastic models have brought strong motivations to explore various generalizations and new insights in combinatorics and special functions. On this subject there are several groups of strong researchers who have made important contributions both in Australia and Japan. This research program aims to create an opportunity where they meet together, discuss most recent developments and start new collaborations across the two countries.

Some potential focal points of this workshop are listed below:
– Crystals and box ball systems
– Symmetric functions
– Stochastic vertex models and integrable probability

Program Structure:

Each day of the five-day workshop will have the same basic structure:
1. A total of four research talks, two hosted by MATRIX and two hosted by RIMS, with talks from one location streamed to the other.
2. A total of three hours set aside for collaboration. Collaboration via Zoom, between participants at MATRIX and RIMS, will be encouraged.
