MATRIX-Simons Fellowship Program Guidelines

MATRIX seeks to support eminent international scholars in the mathematical sciences to make an extended visit to MATRIX and lead a residential research program of significant scope and ambition.

Two Fellowships will be awarded annually. Each Fellow will stay in Australia for at least three months and be a key participant and leader in a MATRIX research program. The Fellows will also engage with mathematical sciences communities at Australian universities before or after the MATRIX research program.

The Fellowship will provide a return airfare and cost for domestic travel to Australian universities (up to AUD3,850), and a stipend of AUD35,000 for housing and living expenses.

Eligibility

Applications are limited to applicants who will participate in a MATRIX research program that includes program organisers from one or more MATRIX full partners.

To be eligible applicants must be an eminent academic/faculty staff member employed at a non-Australian-based academic institution, inclusive of the intended grant period.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree, or equivalent, and have an excellent research track record relative to opportunity.

Application process

Please submit applications to the MATRIX Office by Friday, 20 September 2024.

MATRIX-Simons Fellowships will be awarded based on excellence of the applicant’s track record and potential for collaboration.

The application must include the proposed scientific research program to be held at MATRIX, an indicative timeline for visiting other Australian universities, as well as a C.V. and publication list.

Applications will be assessed by the MATRIX Scientific Committee.

The MATRIX Office will advise applicants on the outcome of their application.

MATRIX-Simons Fellows will be asked to write a brief scientific report at the conclusion of their visit and contribute to the MATRIX Annals.
